TalkFavorites.me is a local question and answer website focused on community favorites. The site posts the question “what’s your favorite…?” to get users started. The user can fill in the blank or ask a similar question to see what others in their area think. The user can ask for the best restaurants, shops or hang out locations. New users begin by entering a city and state. A handful of top locations are presented along the right side for users who are interested in exploring. Locations are displayed with voting stats that include the question posed and number of votes each response received. The user can vote or review the full results to get a better idea of which responses were truly the most popular.Show more screenshots »
TalkFavorites.me was founded in June of 2011. The application was designed to work as an online rating system for local attractions and businesses. The application covers a number of locations including Philadelphia, Toronto and San Francisco. Users may find that searching for a specific city doesn’t work yet. The site is still limited in its geographic reach, but will likely grow as more users discover its uses.
Question and answer websites have been around for a long time. The concept is not original, but the way TalkFavorites.me applies it is. Rather than create another local business review site or a travel focused site, TalkFavorites.me created a place for users to ask unique questions and see what the general opinion is. The user can respond to questions and see all current answers as well as how many votes each received.
TalkFavorites.me has a modern feel that is enhanced by a diagonally striped background. Although the site favors grey and black, lots of personality shows through with hints of orange text and other bits of color hidden on each page. The interface is extremely user friendly and doesn’t assault the user with ads or clutter. The experience stays positive whether the user is asking or answering a question.
New users can join the growing TalkFavorites.me community by clicking the orange “Register” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. A pop up box appears and asks the user for their email address. Users can also click the blue “Connect with Facebook” button to the right to register with a Facebook account . Those who enter an email address are also asked to provide a first and last name and password. The user must check their email inbox for further instructions before signing in.
TalkFavorites.me is available to all users for free. There are no fees and the user isn’t required to make any purchases. The site relies heavily on user participation. Charging a fee would only cause some users to look elsewhere for local information and opinions. Free is the right price to convince new users to join and existing users to return and respond or pose questions.
TalkFavorites.me is a great resource for anyone living in one of the cities the site currently covers. The location options are limited at this point but will likely grow in the coming months. Users can ask questions or respond to questions asked by others to improve the sites offerings. The application works well for casual users as well as those who have honest questions they would like to ask to make decisions about travel or exploration within a city.
